Thanksgivings...

Now that I have the photos, I can blog about the countdown gathering last year, though it is like one month ago, but I still want to blog about it. Why? Because it was an experience I have never experienced before. I have never in my life went out to any gatherings or celebrations on the last day of the year since I was born and last year was the first time I went to a countdown gathering. Actually I wanted something very noisy and fun as I wanted to try out that kind of crazy, high way of counting down. However this countdown gathering I had with my fellow CYYAM brothers and sisters made me think otherwise, I think I will not yearn for any of the crazy, high way of counting down for the many many years to come anymore. Why? Because in this gathering, the focus was back to God! I have never felt so much of peace and quiet happiness at the last few hours of the year in my past years before. We went to Heng Wei and Heng Yi’s condo for the gathering at Harbour Front. We had a fun time of game, very healthy too, haha… Coz it’s about testing our bible knowledge, haha… very difficult too, thanks to Yan Heng for planning the night’s program for us! After that we had sharing and supper till 12 midnight and continued after that, during sharing, I was glad that God made me reflected on my life for the past one year, what’s there to learn and what’s there to thank God about. I also heard the sharing of how God has worked in each and every of the brothers and sisters in 2007 through the sharing. During the sharing, I felt peace and quiet happiness that I won’t find if I have went to some other crazy countdown celebrations, not only we were made to focus back on God to see how He has lead us through 2007, but we also prayed that in 2008 that his hands will continue to guide us through life. Now, that’s the right way to cross the year. Hope this year’s countdown; more CYYAM members will join us in the gathering. And yah, we did not miss the fireworks! Haha… Remember? The condo is in Harbour Front. Haha… Thank you Wei En and Yan Heng for planning the gathering, thank you, Heng Wei for agreeing to let us use his condo and of course to Uncle Tai Guang and Auntie Ru Yi for the supper and drinks! Pizzas from Pizza Hut. Yum yum!!!

Baby Leah also joined us in the gathering!

Cheers to 2007!

repeat #

Anyway, this is the ULTIMATE song, dance and MV of 2007, enjoy! Haha…

Food and Birthdays

I will be a food critic today (I am always though).

Family International Buffet Restaurant (Tampines Mall)

I went to this buffet restaurant last Christmas for a family dinner, an average restaurant I would say. The buffet is separated into different food sections. Here are my comments on each section:

Salad bar

So so

Seafood station

Sashimi.

I did not eat oysters this time, I have tried them though on

my previous visit to the restaurant, they are good and fresh, but this time round I find them taking their own sweet time to get another set of oysters out when the previous set is finished (immediately gone every time it came out, proves how popular it is). The sashimi and the sushi are acceptable.

Fried food station

Nothing special, fried wedges, fried nuggets, fried onion rings, fried chicken wings, super common food only the fried salmon fish head and saba fish is worth the money.

Chops station

You can place your order over here for chicken chop, lamp chop, beef steak, teppanyaki fish and fried bean sprouts at the station and they will bring it to your table, food not bad.

Steam food station

Japanese steam egg and dim sum, not a very appetizing station though.

Cooked food station

Very normal buffet style food except for the choice of soup which is really loaded with many ingredients.

Desert station

I personally think this is the best part for the buffet as the desert are really nice, unlike other buffet restaurants which provide desserts in really big pieces, all their cakes and puddings are in

miniature size, just right for the already bursting stomach and they are not bad. Of course the

ice-cream is really nice, when has ice-cream ever been not nice?

Food rating: 3/5

BBQ Wholesale (Catering company)

I ordered from this catering company for Le fu family’s Christ

mas celebration which is also Yi Jun’s birthday celebration. This catering company is really expensive and the quantity really looks relatively little but to our surprise, we did not even have to finish the food, ok ok, even if the food is enough but why is everything so expensive??? $10 delivery fee!!!??? I think we better make our own food next time. The food taste not bad though, marinating was done quite well but I think I should tell Pei Fern to change to another catering

company for the next church event.

Anyway, happy birthday to Apple, haha… Did our surprise birthday celebration shock you? I think it did, coz you cried mar. Haha… How can we forget Apple’s birthday? Hope you enjoyed your “birthday cake” made of nuggets, your birthday present and the “foam party” Jiamin created for you. Haha…

Food rating: 3.5/5

Apple is so touched that she cry liao. Don't cry, its your birthday, be happy!

The "birthday cake" made up of nuggets and mash mellow with chocolate topping. Special ba, specially made for you leh, Apple.

Apple and her birthday gift, a Hello Kitty make-up box.

Fisherman’s Wharf (Opposite Central Shopping Mall)

Last Friday the coffee shop gang went to celebrate Kopi Soh’s birthday! Happy 21st birthday Kopi Soh!!! Legal age liao wor, adult le wor. Haha… Hope you enjoyed the dinner, sorry though, for not treating you ice-cream as everyone is so full.

Anyway, this restaurant was introduced by Shu Hui’s friend, Nico; therefore we went there to try out. First impression was, SO STUFFY! Because the restaurant is not air conditioned and that day was really hot and stuffy, thanks to the authentic fans though, it did help a bit. The ambience is a bit of Mediterranean feel. The price is acceptable ranging from $6+ to $15+. The drinks menu has really nothing special ranging from soft drinks to fruit juices (mind you, not fresh ones, dream on…). I ordered a silver cod fish for my main dish. The orders came together at the same time and we were quite stunned coz it ALL looks like fish and chips and we did try out each other’s dish and found out they indeed use different types of fish. AHAHA… Although there is a difference in texture but the taste is almost the same! All taste like fish and chips… and mine was the most expensive still… Nothing surprising, a bit disappointing as I would have expected more, it’s just something you can get from a coffee shop. The meal was quite feeling though.

Food rating: 3.5/5

Left: The menu. Right: The drinks

The main dish, silver cod fish.

As if the restaurant does not have enough dishes to serve, our Kopi Soh cleverly created a dish for them to promote for the new year, some masterpiece from our famous Kopi Soh again, this dish is called "Ang Bao Fish in Mayonnaise".

This has nothing to do with food, just find that Leah is so adorable, such a nice photo, isn't it? Mother and daughter

Happy 2008! This is my first blog entry of the year, sorry that is getting a bit dusty here, so here I am to do a bit of spring cleaning since spring is round the corner, and will be doing it in English, since some people say they can't understand Chinese, haha... Time flies... Recently I watched a movie named 每当变幻时, english name, "Hooked on You", by Eason Chan and Miriam Yeung, it is one movie that really touched my heart especially when I am still a bit of a Hong Konger in my heart. I think it is even one of the best in years, since Hong Kong is making a lot of not so nice movies nowadays. Maybe I am quite emo recently which made the movie even more touching. Here is the story:

The time frame of the story is from 1997 to 2007. A girl by the name of
(Miriam Yeung) is a fishmonger that works really hard day and night to help clear debts for her father that was addicted to gambling and prostituition, on a particular morning, some misunderstanding between 阿妙 and 鱼佬 (Eason Chan) another fishmonger next to her stall made both of them foes. However through time 鱼佬 found that 阿妙 is a nice and hardworking girl and decided to help her out in life and both of them fell in love with each other, however 阿妙 has a dream, that is before she gets 30, she will get herself married to a rich guy to get rid of the poor life she was living and 鱼佬 was of course out of her choosing category because he is not a very rich guy and most importantly 阿妙 wants to get out of the wet market life. In year 2000, her father died and surprisingly left her with quite a number of money to grant her with her wish to leave the fish market life and 阿妙 left 鱼佬 without any notice to pursue her own dream, in the end, when she had a successful career, she found out what she really missed was 鱼佬 however when she finally made up her decision to get back to 鱼佬, she found out that he is already married...

This is just a brief description of the story. Just to give you all some background information, this movie was filmed in collaboration with the returning of Hong Kong to China 10th anniversary. The message that is brought out by the film is really meaningful. The movie actually uses the couple to bring out the mentality of Hong Kongers and the wet market as a metaphor of Hong Kong, its a movie that expresses In one particular scene, the government was going to tear down the wet market, however
鱼佬 does not want to give up the wet market and he fought against the police until the police used force to drag him away from the market, that moment when his eyes were fixed to the wet market as he was being dragged to the ambulance, that 不舍得,无奈的表情,让我心里酸了, at the very moment, I know the director wants to express his feelings for the Hong Kong that was gone 10 years ago. The movie continues to bring us through time frames like the 2003 SARS and so on. Miriam Yeung's character portrays the mentality of younger Hong Kongers, wants to succeed in life but in the end realize that they have missed out a lot in life. Eason Chan's character portrays the older generations, those who will stay and love Hong Kong as long as they live, because this is where the grow and lived, they are extremely emotionally rooted with Hong Kong. The movie tells us to cherish the things we have now and grab hold of the opportunities in life because once gone, things will never be the same again. One point to note that Eason Chan and Miriam Yeung's acting awed me, I know Eason Chan is a great singer but never did it came to me that he is a great actor until this movie and Miriam Yueng is the one that made me 眼前一亮, gone were her 大笑姑婆 style of acting, but here she becomes really sophisticated and handled her character's emotions really well. I like the last sentence of the movie, "以前,我会觉得我很失败,可是现在我成功发现一切只不过是一个过程”。The theme song of the movie is cover of an oldies, the cover is sung by Miriam Yeung and the song name is 每当变幻时, the lyrics is very meaningful and let me reflected a bit on my life... A 4.5/5 movie.

Time flies... We must cherish all we have for now...

Really have a lot of worries recently, but thank God last week that through Stephe
n Tong's sermon, I was being reminded again by God, really thank God for that. I need to learn how to hand over all my worries to God and believe that he will guide me through, though I might not entirely handle that well now. Fear always grip me and I seriously need God's help to get me out of it.

Anyway, since I have long never posted any entries recently, just show you all some main highlights of what I have done these few weeks.

First time in my life as a dark angel! Haha... Very happy to be involved in the gospel camp last year, fun to be dark angel but really stuffy and hot to be in that costume!!!

Went to Vinc's house for Christmas and of course to play with cute Leah!!!
